Van de Ven Brace Halts Everton's Unbeaten Streak at New Home Ground

Micky van de Ven found the net on two occasions as Tottenham prolonged their winning streak in away games in the Premier League and handed Everton their initial loss at their new home.

The Toffees were unbeaten in their last five matches at their recently opened stadium at Bramley-Moore Dock, having departed their historic home behind after 133 years at the conclusion of the previous campaign.

But Tottenham's leader the Dutchman pounced on two occasions from corners in the opening 45 minutes to put their impressive record at risk, and they were unable to turn it around before Pape Matar Sarr - set up by former Toffees attacker the Brazilian - nodded in a final goal to seal the victory.

Jake O'Brien believed he had levelled the scores a short while after Van de Ven's opener, glancing a powerful header past the Spurs keeper from an set-piece.

The Portuguese striker, meanwhile, failed to convert a number of opportunities, while Vicario made a succession of excellent saves to guarantee Tottenham went five away games unbeaten in the Premier League.

But the VAR intervened, advising the match official to check the score on the screen and the official decided that the winger and Iliman Ndiaye were in offside positions and had impeded with the Spurs keeper.

The win moves the manager's side up to third in the division, a handful of points off north London rivals and leaders the Gunners.

Everton stay 14th and sit half a dozen points ahead of the drop zone.

Tottenham analysis: The defender excels in role at both ends of pitch

Following a drab midweek display in the Champions League against Monaco, where they mustered a only attempts on goal, the manager opted for the French striker up front instead of former Toffees player Richarlison.

The new arrival was failed to influence the game before being replaced for the substitute after 60 minutes on the field, but it turns out he proved unnecessary in the final outcome.

Centre-back Van de Ven transformed into an offensive threat to be reckoned with.

Tottenham's first goal came from a cleverly executed corner routine, with the midfielder heading the ball back across the face of goal for an unmarked Van de Ven to score.

And the captain - filling in as captain in the Argentine's absence - added his second in first-half stoppage time as he rose above Jordan Pickford to head home.

The Dutchman was equally impressive in defensive duties, combining well with his defensive colleague as the pair dealt superbly with the numerous deliveries sent their way by Everton.

Everton analysis: Everton lacking striker's instinct

The club's new home had been a fortress, but it appears the novelty may have faded somewhat and supporters flocked to the gates after the midfielder's final goal for Spurs.

The end in the team's winning streak at home will not be a major concern for David Moyes, but their striker situation are.

The forward and the other striker - the Everton's pair of established strikers - had netted only one league goal between them before Sunday's match.

And they were failed to contribute to that miserable record on a wet and gloomy night on Merseyside.

Beto's performance was epitomized when he chose to bicycle-kick a clear chance from near the goal, even with having room and opportunity to readjust for a simpler attempt that would have challenged the keeper.

Barry, as well, failed to influence the game after replacing the starter in the 65th minute.

It wasn't for a shortage of opportunity. The majority of Everton's attacks came through Grealish and Ndiaye, who relentlessly whipped threatening balls into the Spurs penalty area.
